“My only barometer, as a director, is what I feel,” says Director Felix van Groeningen at the Chicago International Film Festival. Groeningen discusses directing Timotheé Chalamet and Steve Carell in his first-English-language film, “Beautiful Boy,” and explains how the story evolved from two memoirs into one movie.

“Beautiful Boy” is a film adaptation of the David and Nic Sheff memoirs about a father-son relationship that is strained by addiction. “Beautiful Boy” stars Steve Carell, Amy Ryan, Andre Royo, and Timothée Chalamet.
