The Czech Republic now has a 20% production incentive for films that spend more than CZK15mm (apx. USD $720,000) in the country.  The Czech Republic is beautiful place to shoot that has very good crews and local resources.

Unfortunately, like Hungary, as their skill, talent, and resources developed, so too did the costs for such services, to the point that they ultimately priced themselves out of the market, when compared to less expensive neighbors like Romania and Bulgaria; hopefully this will offset those increases, because this is one of the best places to shoot.  Hungary also has a 20% incentive.

Additional information can be found at the Czech Republic’s Film Office Website:

Projects that qualify can receive a 20% rebate on eligible local spend on goods and services paid to companies or individuals registered to pay income tax in the Czech Republic. Projects can also receive a 10% rebate on costs paid to individuals who pay withholding tax in the Czech Republic but who are not registered to pay income tax. Eligible spend is capped at 80% of the total budget.

  1. Great news. There is a great world class VFX Company called UPP UPP.cz – with branches in Czech Republic and Budapest. We are doing accounting on one feature and they have done many more major projects, so not only filming but VFX can be part of the tax credit.
